After two months of silence, I’m back—with the truth about failure, recommitment, and why your comeback starts with a walk.

Where I’ve Been
I promised to tell you how I went from fat to fit—and then I disappeared. No excuses. I owe you better.
For a couple of months, this space went quiet. That’s on me. Not because I stopped caring, but because I went silent. I don’t have a big audience, but the few of you who read and care about this journey matter to me. I should have kept the line open.
Who I Am (and Who You Might Be)
Right now, I’m holed up alone in a cabin in the Northwest, rain on the roof, finally getting serious about finishing this story. I’m sixty-six years old, down ninety pounds from my heaviest, and I’ve stayed within a healthy range for three years. I walk. I hike. I live light. I live Garrett-good.
You, maybe, are a man somewhere between thirty and sixty-something, carrying an extra twenty to fifty pounds—mostly in the gut. Or maybe you love someone who fits that description. You’ve probably dieted before, maybe dozens of times. I sure did—from age fifteen to fifty-seven. I’ll tell those stories; you’ll recognize yourself in more than a few.
Why Now Matters
Let’s treat this channel like a documentary in progress. I’ll use it to publish essays, refine them into book chapters, and spin off YouTube videos that show—not just tell—how transformation happens and how to hold on to it.
But before we get there, here’s your job for today, November 1:
Decide whether this is the time to make a real commitment to yourself. Not a two-week burst that ends with higher weight and lower self-esteem. A real, no-turning-back decision.
I can’t say when your time will come—but I know this: you don’t see many eighty-year-olds with big guts. If you want to make it that far—and still be able to move, laugh, and live without a pharmacy in your kitchen—then “the time” eventually has to come. Maybe this is it.
The First Step
If you’re not sure where to start, don’t overthink it.
Go for a walk.
One block. Ten minutes. No gear, no watch, no app. Just walk.
That single act—choosing movement—starts to tilt your life in a new direction. It’s not glamorous, but it’s the hinge everything else swings on. Do that for a week. Then do it again.
The good news: your body forgives fast once you start. Progress comes quicker than you expect if you stick with it long enough for it to matter.
What’s Next
Drop a comment if this hits home. I’ll post again Monday with the next step—how simple walking turned into the cornerstone of losing ninety pounds.
And together, step by step, we will tame this beast—once and for all!
Stay curious. Stay kind.
— Garrett
