What Am I Doing?

Three posts in, and I owe you a proper briefing on what I want to build together with you. It is no secret that our biggest impediments, after we turn 30, to a long and relatively painless life are excess weight and the associated decline in physical activity that comes with it. My intent is to share what has worked for me, how I was able to “flip the switch,” and reverse the same insidious forces with which you contend daily.

Now, I am going to be upfront with you. I am no scientist, dietician, doctor, or nutritionist. I have never published a book. I can sometimes have the self-discipline of a real procrastinator. The worst news? I can only tell you what worked for me.

Still with me? My operations plan is to write a book detailing how I lost the weight, how I kept it off, and what I did to tune myself back to my fighting weight after I went astray. I believe that what I have to offer is 50% nuts and bolts: eat this, don’t eat that kind of stuff. Most folks want that — and they want to see quick results. I can offer that, but the real results, the ones that cause you do a double take when you see yourself out of the corner of your eye in a mirror in a store — for those results I think you are going to need to hear my story and buy into the bigger issues I will discuss.

If you are reading this, you are likely among a small group of people doing so. I do not have a following yet. But that’s OK, because I have a lot to say and I am still figuring out how to say it. I want to communicate clearly and effectively. To this end, I will do my best to put out a couple of blog posts a week, and I will serialize my book as I write draft chapters. I will add some interesting original source material (authors, podcasters, citations to traditional media). My desire is to spread my message of managing a healthy weight and walking everyday through my writing, some videos and live events. Any comments, questions or suggestions you might have are always welcome!
